What could be a busy three-day NFL draft for the Cleveland Browns got underway Thursday in Pittsburgh with Round 1.

The Browns made a trade and two picks during Round 1, which began with the Las Vegas Raiders taking quarterback Fernando Mendoza, the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner from Indiana, with the No. 1 overall pick. Soon a bunch of Ohio State Buckeyes got drafted, four in the first 11 picks, including three within a four-pick stretch — receiver Carnell Tate (Titans, No. 4), linebacker Arvell Reese (Giants, No. 5) and linebacker Sonny Styles (Commanders, No. 7).

Meanwhile, the Browns addressed two big needs — with tackle Spencer Fano and wide receiver KC Concepcion — in the first round. But with only 32 players off the draft board, the work has just begun for Cleveland and the rest of the NFL. Another 68 players will be drafted on Friday, April 24, when the draft resumes with Rounds 2 and 3.
