For over a year and a half, the University of Washington had its sights set on a talented interior offensive lineman from Colorado. On Monday, that patience paid off.
Reis Russell, a 6-foot-3, 290-pound standout from Valor Christian High School in Littleton, Colorado, officially announced his commitment to the Huskies. He becomes the 13th verbal pledge in Washington's 2027 recruiting class and gives offensive line coach Michael Switzer a major recruiting win over powerhouse programs like Georgia, Miami, and USC.
Russell's journey to Montlake has been building for months. Back in February, he already had Florida, Oregon, and SMU on his list alongside the Bulldogs and Hurricanes. But his connection with Coach Switzer was undeniable—a bond that Russell described as essential for an offensive lineman's development.
"I think anytime I've talked with Switz we've had a special connection," Russell said earlier this year. "Us having that connection is really important to me. You have to be on the same page with your position coach because you're breaking down things into such little technical details. I feel like we really have that."
Rated as the No. 54 interior offensive line prospect in the 2027 cycle by 247Sports, Russell brings versatility that fits perfectly into Washington's system. He projects as a guard or center—a plug-and-play option that could follow the path of former three-star recruit John Mills, who arrived in 2025 and started all but two games as a true freshman.
With senior starting center Landen Hatchett expected to move on after this season, the timing couldn't be better. Russell will compete with second- and third-year options like Lowen Colman-Brusa and Jake Flores, who both took snaps at the position this spring.
Russell is the first offensive line pledge in the 2027 class, giving the Huskies a strong anchor to build around. For Coach Switzer and head coach Jedd Fisch, this commitment is more than just a signature—it's a statement that Washington's trenches are being built with purpose.
