The Dallas Stars' season came to a sudden end Thursday night, falling to the Minnesota Wild in Game 6 of their first-round playoff series. For a team that had gone deeper in the postseason each of the last three years, this early exit stings—especially against a Wild squad celebrating what many are calling the biggest win in franchise history.
The postgame locker room told two very different stories. On one side, a banged-up Stars group faced tough questions about what went wrong and what comes next. On the other, a jubilant Minnesota team relished a moment they'll remember for years.
Here's what both sides had to say after the decisive Game 6.
Stars captain on the series: "We played hard. But it felt like every time we made a mistake, it ended up in our net. It wasn't from a lack of trying to score—we just didn't get the bounces we needed, and they did, especially at the biggest moments. That's a heck of a team. They played really well. Tonight was pretty even—they had the first period, we had the second, the third was a toss-up. They just got the last bounce off a skate and in. That kind of sums up the series. It's really tough right now, but I'm so grateful to be part of this team. I know we'll be back better than ever."
On whether the Stars' Stanley Cup window is still open: "Absolutely. Everyone is locked up for a long time. All our young guys will get another year older and more experienced. Us older guys, we'll keep pushing and keep our level where it is. We don't plan on going anywhere or tapering off. Sometimes it takes a few times knocking on the door before you break through. We have a really good team, a really good group, and we'll keep trying to get better. It's always tough to swallow—it doesn't matter when you lose when you believe you can win. You feel like it's a missed opportunity. We'll sit in that for a little bit, but then we'll pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and get back to work."
