The Wisconsin Badgers had a big week last week in the transfer portal, securing the commitments of George Washington guard Trey Autry, Miami (OH) wing Eian Elmer, and Hofstra center Victory Onuetu. All three filled the top needs Wisconsin had entering the month, and should fit into the rotation next season with a new-look team.

Autry, a junior this past season, is the son of former Syracuse star and coach Adrian Autry. He averaged 11.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last year, while hitting 38.5 percent of his threes on 6.4 attempts per game.

Elmer, also a junior this past season, averaged 12.7 points and 5.9 rebounds this past season, while hitting nearly 50 percent of his shots and 43 percent of his threes for Miami (OH) this season.

As for Onuetu, the Hofstra center averaged 4.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks this season in 17.9 minutes per game. At 6’10, 235 pounds, he provides rim protection and a shot blocker in the frontcourt.

Following the signings of all three commits, head coach Greg Gard shared his thoughts on the additions and how they could fit within Wisconsin’s program.

“We are very excited to have Trey coming to Wisconsin. He brings some size, physicality, and experience to our backcourt. As a son of a coach, his basketball IQ is high and his ability to stretch defenses from 3 is a great asset to our offensive balance. We are looking forward to beginning preparation for next season when he gets to Madison this summer.”

“We are really excited to add another excellent addition to our spring signees. Eian brings a wealth of experience and scoring punch as a 6-7 wing. He played on one of the country’s most successful teams at Miami (Ohio) that won 32 games. A terrific shooter, his skillset and production fit excellently into our plan as we build out next year’s team. Throughout our evaluation process our staff loved his size, power and skill and truly believe he will thrive in our system. We can’t wait to get Eian to Madison in June to join all his teammates as preparation begins for what appears to be another exciting Badger team.”

“Having Victory coming to our program is a terrific addition to our team. He’s an extremely talented, athletic front line player that gives us excellent rim pressure in transition, lob threats in the half court, shot blocking capability and relentless rebounding. In addition to complimenting our roster plan very well, he is an extraordinary person who Badger fans are going to love getting to know. We can’t wait until we can begin working with him when he arrives in June!”

With the three additions in the fold, Wisconsin’s rotation is starting to take shape, with players on the wing now in the fold. There looks to be adequate depth as well, but the Badgers will be relying more on their younger players there this season.
