Iowa defensive end Max Llewellyn was selected in the seventh round, 238th overall, by the Miami Dolphins in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Llewellyn appeared in 43 games during his Hawkeye career, including 13 starts. He totaled 14.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss in his time at Iowa.

We asked Hawk Central football writers Chad Leistikow and Tyler Tachman for some quick analysis on Llewellyn. Here's what they said.

Chad Leistikow: Has explosive gifts off the edge and NFL size (6-5½, 258) that will make him an ideal fit in a 4-3 scheme like Iowa’s. Llewellyn’s strip-sack of Nebraska’s Dylan Raiola in the final minute of a 2024 game at Kinnick Stadium underscored his penchant for big moments, ultimately setting up the game-winning field goal. Needs to improve in the run game but does well what NFL edge rushers are asked to do, which is get after the quarterback.

Tyler Tachman: Llewellyn, a product of Urbandale, Iowa, appeared in 43 games during his Hawkeye career, including 13 starts. He totaled 14.5 sacks and 20.5 tackles for loss in his time at Iowa. Llewellyn waited his turn and was productive in a reserve role before becoming a starter. Two seasons ago, Llewellyn recorded 5.5 sacks, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. Then in his final season with the Hawkeyes, Llewellyn took on a larger role, starting all 13 games. He accumulated 6.5 sacks and 9.5 tackles for loss, both of which were career-highs.
