The 2026 NFL Draft will award compensatory picks to teams that lost top free agents from last year’s class. That includes the Las Vegas Raiders, who saw Tre’von Moehrig sign a three-year, $51 million contract with the Carolina Panthers.
The Las Vegas Raiders received a fourth-round pick for letting Tre’von Moehrig leave in free agency. That is now the number 134 overall pick in the draft.
When the Raiders make their selection at 134, we will update.
Moehrig had his second straight season with over 100 tackles in his first year with Carolina. He played and started in 16 games for the team and had a career-high three sacks as well. He also reported an interception as the Panthers won the NFC South and made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2017.
Moehrig is one of the best tacklers in the league, and the fact that he signed for roughly $17 million per year shows that the Raiders could have made an offer. This deal might be one that they regret not making themselves, but adding an additional pick will cushion the blow. There’s potential that he could be just as good, if not better than, their former defensive back.
Compensatory picks are awarded to teams that suffer a net loss of qualifying free agents during the previous year’s free agency period. So 2026 NFL Draft compensatory picks are awarded due to free agents lost in 2025.
Then those players are ranked on the amount of salary, playing time, and a bunch of other criteria and slotted into the end of rounds three through seven.
