BLOOMINGTON — The countdown is on for Darian DeVries as he puts the finishing touches on his second Indiana basketball roster, and the checklist is getting shorter by the day.
Just last week, DeVries identified post depth as a priority—and he wasted no time checking that box. The very next day, German 7-footer Clemens Sokolov committed, adding size and a new dimension to the Hoosiers' frontcourt. But that move did more than just shore up the paint; it also highlighted an exciting storyline that had been flying under the radar: Indiana's freshman class.
While the spring transfer portal has dominated headlines, DeVries' high school signees have quietly been reloading key parts of the roster. Between the newcomers and the transfer additions, the Hoosiers are in a far stronger position than they were just a few months ago.
"We’ve got good depth at most positions," DeVries said. "The remaining focus is on adding a little more depth in a couple areas, just to cover us from a practice standpoint and an injury standpoint. That’s our priority with these last couple spots."
With summer workouts looming, DeVries has a short list of final moves to make. Expect him to target versatile pieces that can slide into multiple roles—players who bring experience, athleticism, and the ability to contribute immediately. Whether it's a veteran guard who can steady the offense or a wing with defensive versatility, the goal is clear: build a roster that can compete at the highest level of the Big Ten.
For Hoosier fans, the foundation is already there. Now it's about adding the finishing touches that could turn a promising team into a contender.
