The Georgia Bulldogs have hit a rough patch in their pursuit of elite quarterback talent for the 2027 recruiting class, and the latest miss is a tough one to swallow. Four-star quarterback Peter Bourque, ranked as the No. 7 signal-caller in the nation, has committed to Virginia Tech instead of joining Kirby Smart's program in Athens.
While it might feel early—after all, it's only May—the recruiting calendar has accelerated dramatically. Of the top 30 quarterback recruits in the 2027 cycle, only one remains uncommitted: Colton Nussmeier. He's a top-10 quarterback and a key target for the Bulldogs, but he's drawing heavy interest from multiple powerhouse programs.
If Nussmeier chooses another school, Georgia will need to pivot quickly. Options could include flipping a quarterback recruit from another team's commitment list, taking a chance on a three-star prospect with hidden potential, or dipping into the transfer portal. The portal route, however, comes with a hefty price tag and hasn't been the Bulldogs' go-to for a starting quarterback in recent years.
Fortunately, the cupboard isn't bare. Georgia already has promising arms on the roster, including Ryan Puglisi and Ryan Montgomery. Redshirt freshman Hezekiah Millender and four-star signee Bryson Beaver add depth to the quarterback room. With Gunner Stockton set to exhaust his eligibility after the 2026 season, the Bulldogs will need a new starter soon.
One wild card is five-star 2028 quarterback commit Jayden Wade. He could potentially reclassify to the 2027 cycle, but there's no guarantee that move will happen. For now, Georgia fans will be watching closely as the recruiting battle heats up.
