The Washington Commanders have had one of the most eventful offseasons in the NFL, but there's still work to be done. After a stunning 12-5 run to the NFC Championship Game in 2024, the team hit a wall in 2025, finishing a disappointing 5-12. General Manager Adam Peters entered the offseason with a clear mission: get younger, faster, and completely overhaul a defense that ranked among the league's worst.
Thanks to roughly $90 million in cap space and some savvy roster management—including extending left tackle Laremy Tunsil after trading for him last March—Peters had the resources to make big moves. And he did exactly that. The Commanders added a wave of edge rushers in Odafe Oweh, K'Lavon Chaisson, and Charles Omenihu, re-signed defensive tackle Tim Settle, brought in versatile linebacker Leo Chenal, and revamped the secondary with cornerback Amik Robertson and safety Nick Cross. On offense, they kept backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, signed athletic tight end Chig Okonkwo, and added veteran wide receivers Dyami Brown and Van Jefferson to support rising star quarterback Jayden Daniels.
The 2026 NFL Draft added another layer of excitement. Linebacker Sonny Styles, known for his freakish athleticism, has the potential to become a future star at the position. Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams was also drafted as another weapon for Daniels, bringing speed and versatility to the slot.
But even after all this activity, the Commanders' offseason checklist isn't quite complete. According to NFL.com's Kevin Patra, three key questions remain. The most pressing? Washington still lacks a true outside threat to pair with star wideout Terry McLaurin. While the team used a third-round pick on Antonio Williams, he's more of a slot receiver. The assumption around the league is that the Commanders are waiting for Brandon Aiyuk—a dynamic, proven outside receiver who would instantly transform the passing game. If Peters can pull off that move, Washington's offense could be one of the most explosive in the NFC.
