South Florida hockey fans are no strangers to the Edmonton Oilers, thanks to recent postseason battles. But beyond McDavid, Draisaitl, and company—who are now eliminated—there's a whole new wave of elite talent still chasing the Cup. With the West whittled down to four teams, the intensity is only ramping up.

Leading the charge are the Colorado Avalanche, a team many consider the favorite to take over as Stanley Cup champions. After all, they won the Presidents' Trophy as the league's top regular-season team, leading the NHL in both goals scored and fewest goals allowed. That's the kind of dominance that builds dynasties.

At the heart of it all is Nathan MacKinnon. The Avalanche superstar led the NHL with 53 goals this season, won the Hart Trophy as MVP in 2024, and is a frontrunner again this year. A two-time James Norris Memorial Trophy winner as the NHL's top defenseman—and a finalist again this season—Makar has scored 20 or more goals in four of his seven NHL seasons. Drafted fourth overall in 2014 after a standout career at UMass, he's the kind of player who changes the game from the blue line. Paired with Devon Toews, they form arguably the best defensive duo in hockey.

Between the pipes, Scott Wedgewood may not be a household name, but he's been rock-solid. After two strong seasons in Colorado, he's reeled off six straight playoff wins. Don't sleep on him—he's proving that goaltending wins championships.
