Victor Wembanyama delivered a standout performance as the San Antonio Spurs evened their Western Conference semi-final series, while the New York Knicks seized a commanding 2-0 lead in the East.
Fresh off becoming the NBA's first unanimous Defensive Player of the Year, the French sensation powered the Spurs to a dominant 133-95 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday. After dropping Game 1 at home, San Antonio responded with authority, building a 59-35 halftime lead—Minnesota's lowest-scoring half of the entire season.
"I'm expecting this kind of response from myself, from my team-mates, so I'm not surprised by any means," Wembanyama said. "There is some ego. They assaulted us in game one, we wanted to assault them in game two."
The second-seeded Spurs rode Wembanyama's 19 points and 15 rebounds to their highest playoff score since 1983. Remarkably, San Antonio hasn't lost back-to-back games since January 11 and 13—a stretch of 49 contests.
Across the conference, Jalen Brunson orchestrated a thrilling finish as the third-seeded Knicks edged the Philadelphia 76ers 108-102 at home. The game featured 25 lead changes—the most in a playoff game in 11 years—keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
Philadelphia played without Joel Embiid, who was ruled out hours before tip-off due to right hip soreness and an ankle sprain. Brunson scored eight of his 26 points in the decisive fourth quarter, while Karl-Anthony Towns added 20 points and 10 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey led the Sixers with 26 points, but Philadelphia now faces a must-win Game 3 on Friday at home, hoping for Embiid's return.
In other playoff action, the Oklahoma City Thunder and Detroit Pistons both opened their semi-final series with wins, setting the stage for more intense postseason battles.
