The Oregon Ducks backcourt is undergoing a significant reshuffle this offseason, with reserve point guard Wei Lin becoming the latest player to seek a new home. Lin has officially entered the NCAA transfer portal after a single season in Eugene.
Lin's arrival from the professional ranks in China generated considerable intrigue last fall. The 6-foot-4 guard was a high-volume scorer for the Nanjing Monkey Kings in the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging an impressive 21 points per game. However, translating that success to the collegiate level proved challenging in his debut NCAA season.
In 30 games for the Ducks, including nine starts, Lin averaged 6.6 points and 1.7 assists while shooting 34.4% from the field. His season highlight was a 23-point, five-assist performance in a thrilling overtime loss to Rutgers in January, showcasing the potential that made him an intriguing prospect.
Lin now joins a growing list of Ducks in the portal, including Jackson Shelstad and Kwame Evans Jr., as head coach Dana Altman faces a major roster rebuild. With several seniors also departing, Oregon currently has nine scholarship spots to fill, signaling a transformative period for the program.
For Lin, the portal represents a fresh start and an opportunity to find a system where his professional experience and scoring ability can flourish at the college level. His journey adds another fascinating chapter to the ever-evolving landscape of college basketball roster movement.
