Chelsea fans are facing a frustrating new opponent this season: the secondary ticket market. A major point of contention has emerged around Vivid Seats, a US-based ticket resale platform where Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly holds a minority stake. The platform is listing tickets for the Blues' upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Leeds United at Wembley Stadium for as much as £1,705—a staggering markup from the official face value of £30 to £150.

What makes this situation particularly galling for supporters is the timing. These inflated listings appeared online even before tickets were made available to Chelsea season ticket holders through the club's official channels on Friday morning. Over 100 listings were found across all sections of Wembley, including areas designated for both sets of fans and hospitality lounges.

While the practice skirts UK law by not displaying these prices to domestic customers, accessing them with a simple VPN reveals a marketplace where prices are set by individual sellers, with Vivid Seats taking a cut from each sale. This has sparked significant backlash from the Chelsea faithful, who see a direct conflict of interest.

"When tickets for major matches are appearing on resale platforms at hugely inflated prices, it makes clear that the system simply isn't working for regular fans," said Dominic Ross, chair of the Chelsea Supporters Trust. He expressed confusion and upset that Chairman Boehly, who should be leading the charge against ticket touting, is linked to a company facilitating these "eye-watering" costs.

The issue extends beyond the FA Cup semi-final. Vivid Seats also has listings for all six of Chelsea's remaining Premier League games, with prices reaching over £3,200, and tickets are already being offered for the FA Cup final itself. For fans dreaming of seeing their team in iconic cup competitions, the path to the stadium is being blocked by prohibitive resale prices, turning a passion for the game into a paywall.
