The Webb City Cardinals are building some serious momentum this season. On Tuesday, they traveled to Lebanon and secured a hard-fought 7-4 victory over the Yellowjackets, pushing their impressive record to 9-3.
Webb City set the tone early, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning. Braden Strickland got the scoring started with an RBI single, and the Cardinals capitalized on a pair of Lebanon errors to build their initial advantage.
They extended the lead to 4-0 in the fourth, but Lebanon showed fight. A clutch triple from Beckett York in the fifth inning drove in two runs, and a subsequent single brought York home, suddenly making it a 4-3 ballgame and tightening the pressure.
However, the Cardinals responded when it mattered most. In the decisive top of the seventh, Braden Strickland delivered again, lacing a two-run single to center field. Another run scored on a wild pitch, giving Webb City crucial insurance runs and a 7-3 cushion.
Lebanon managed one more run in their final at-bat, but the Cardinals' defense held firm to seal the 7-4 win. Strickland was the offensive catalyst, finishing 2-for-4 with three crucial RBIs. On the mound, starter Tate Lewis earned the win with a strong four-inning outing, striking out eight batters.
With their winning record intact, the Cardinals now look ahead to their next challenge: a home matchup against Springfield Central this Thursday.
