The U.S. Olympic figure skating team brought their gold-medal talent to Citi Field, but their first-pitch performance left a lot to be desired—and gave the Mets yet another tough moment on the mound this season.

Hoping to add a touch of creativity to the ceremonial pregame ritual, the skaters attempted to turn the first pitch into a showcase of their signature moves. Instead, what unfolded was a series of missed catches and wayward throws that had the crowd laughing more than cheering.

Ice dancer Anthony Ponomarenko lifted his partner, Christina Carreira, onto his shoulders for a dramatic catch. But Carreira, unaccustomed to the limited mobility of being hoisted in the air, was unable to snag the ball as it skidded low and to the side. The duo was left empty-handed.

Not to be outdone, teammates Vadym Kolesnik and Emilea Zingas tried a different approach—adding a flip before the throw. But Amber Glenn's pitch sailed high over their heads, leaving the pair scrambling.

Despite the shaky throws, the team had plenty to celebrate. The U.S. figure skating squad returned from the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina with two gold medals and a silver. Alysa Liu captured individual gold in women's singles, while the team also topped the podium in the team event.

The 16-member roster was honored at Citi Field for their historic performance, even if their first-pitch efforts didn't earn them a fourth medal. It was a lighthearted reminder that even Olympic champions can have an off day—especially when trading ice skates for a baseball diamond.
