After eight seasons of grit, grace, and game-changing plays, former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons has officially hung up his cleats. On Wednesday—exactly ten years after being selected in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft—Simmons signed a one-day contract to retire as a Bronco, bringing his remarkable career full circle.
During his retirement press conference, Simmons addressed Denver media with a sense of peace and gratitude. "I do feel extremely proud and happy," he said, reflecting on his time in orange and blue. While Simmons never experienced the level of team success the Broncos are enjoying now, he remained a steady anchor through seasons of uncertainty and tough losses.
"From a fan perspective, I did my best with what we were going through, and it was a lot," Simmons shared. "There was a lot of head coach turnover. It’s weird too, because there was an ownership thing happening, and you have to focus on football and winning games. It was hard. I hope the legacy I left is that I was a guy who really did care and passionately cared. I wanted to win, and it didn’t work out. I’m so glad they are winning now, and it’s awesome."
Simmons was more than just a standout safety—he was a franchise cornerstone and a community icon. Known for his leadership, consistency, and off-field impact, he leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond the stat sheet. As he steps into the next chapter of his life, there's no doubt he'll continue to make an impact, both on and off the field.
