It’s a new era for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Following the 2025 campaign, Mike Tomlin—the NFL’s longest-tenured head coach and a presumptive Hall of Famer—stepped down from his role at the vanguard of the Steel Curtain.

This weekend, we got our first look at the Steelers’ next generation as the Steel Curtain loaded up on 10 fresh-faced rookies at a hometown edition of the NFL Draft. Though the Steelers' selections lacked splashy names, Iowa wide receiver Kaden Wetjen made up for it with an instant-classic NFL Draft moment, answering his fateful call while in the middle of a round of golf on Saturday. This is the best excuse for the slow play we’ve ever seen. After Wetjen received the call, his whole group gathered beside the green to stream the pick live on his phone as he was selected in the fourth round at 121st overall. Some hardos among us might quibble with the pace of play, but if anyone had the cojones to hit into them, they deserved to get the truck stick.

There’s much we still don’t know about the role Wetjen will play in the Steelers’ offense. Heck, with Aaron Rodgers’ future still up in the air, he doesn’t know who he’ll be catching passes from next season. Should Rodgers return, however, the Hawkeye prospect won’t just be getting a new signal caller, but a new golf buddy to boot. Even if all he ends up doing is fielding punts (Wetjen is Iowa's all-time return-TD leader with six), that sounds like a pretty good deal to us.
