Barcelona's commanding 4-1 derby victory over Espanyol solidified their position at the top of La Liga, but the real drama unfolded after the final whistle. While the scoreline suggests a routine win, the intense local rivalry, fueled by years of history and players who have clashed since their youth academy days, nearly boiled over into a full-scale confrontation.

The flashpoint occurred following a tense on-field exchange between Barcelona's fiery young midfielder, Gavi, and Espanyol winger Pere Milla. Visibly frustrated on the bench, Gavi was heard venting to teammates about Milla's provocations, stating the Espanyol player had called him "absolutely rubbish" even with the game well in hand for Barça.

The emotions didn't subside with the final whistle. As Espanyol players headed for the tunnel, Gavi and teammate Fermin López joined in with taunting chants from the Barcelona supporters. Fermin amplified the tension by shouting, "You're absolutely rubbish," directly at the departing rivals.

This ignited an immediate and heated response. Pere Milla, already central to the earlier clash, sought out Fermin for a direct confrontation. While he didn't find his intended target, he crossed paths with Gavi again, leading to another angry exchange. The situation grew so volatile that players from both sides appeared to be arranging a further clash in the tunnel area.

Thankfully, despite the soaring tempers and provocative words, the situation was contained before it could escalate into a physical altercation. Both teams eventually separated and headed to their respective dressing rooms, leaving behind a match remembered as much for its post-game fireworks as for the football itself.
