Former University of Kentucky standout freshman and one-time five-star recruit in the 2025 class Kaelyn Carroll announced her move to UW on Saturday.

The Washington Huskies women's basketball program is making serious moves this offseason, and their latest addition is turning heads across the college basketball landscape. On Saturday, former Kentucky standout Kaelyn Carroll announced she's bringing her talents to Seattle, becoming the fourth transfer to join head coach Tina Langley's squad since the portal opened in early April.

Carroll is no ordinary pickup. The 6-foot-3 wing was a five-star recruit in the 2025 class and ranked as the No. 18 overall prospect in the nation. In her lone season with the Wildcats, the Dedham, Massachusetts native appeared in 34 games, logging 403 minutes while averaging 3.4 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. She also showed promise from beyond the arc, connecting on 30.9% of her three-point attempts.

What makes Carroll's journey even more compelling is the adversity she's already overcome. During her high school career at Tabor Academy, she battled through multiple potentially career-ending injuries, emerging as one of the most coveted prep players in the country. Her freshman season at Kentucky may not have been statistically flashy, but it displayed enough potential that many Wildcats fans were stunned when she chose to enter the transfer portal after just one year.

Carroll joins a growing list of impactful transfers for Washington, including former Oklahoma State guard Macey Huard, ex-North Carolina State forward Tilda Trygger, and former Colorado State guard Brooke Carlson. She'll also be reunited with fellow five-star recruit and new teammate Brynn McGaughy, who ranked just four spots ahead of Carroll in the 2025 class rankings.

McGaughy made an immediate impact in her first season with the Huskies, averaging 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds over 30 games (10 starts) and earning a spot on the All-Big Ten Freshman Team. Together, Carroll and McGaughy give Washington a dynamic young frontcourt core to build around for years to come.

Langley has been busy reshaping the roster following the departures of senior guards Hannah Stines, Elle Ladine, and Teagan Brown, as well as bigs Yulia Grabovskaia and forward Sha. With Carroll now in the fold, the Huskies are clearly signaling their intent to compete at a high level in the Big Ten—and they're not done yet.
