The Washington Huskies are wasting no time building for the future, extending a scholarship offer to one of the West Coast's most promising young defensive backs. On Monday, the coaching staff reached out to Simi Valley High School cornerback Micah Hannah, a rising 2028 prospect whose stock is soaring this spring.
Standing 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds, Hannah already boasts an impressive 15 scholarship offers—and that number is only expected to grow. The three-star sophomore is the son of former USC wide receiver Travis Hannah, a fourth-round pick by the Houston Oilers in the 1993 NFL Draft. But while his father made his name on offense, Micah has carved out his own path as a physical, rangy outside cornerback.
Hannah's recruitment began picking up steam in November 2024, when Arizona became the first school to offer him. Since then, a steady wave of Power Four programs have followed suit, including Arizona State, Arkansas, BYU, Florida, and North Carolina. Now, Washington has joined the race—and the Huskies' interest signals just how highly they value him in the 2028 cycle.
According to 247Sports, Hannah is the fourth California cornerback in his class to receive an offer from UW secondary coach John Richardson, and the fifth overall at the position. That level of attention from a program known for developing NFL-caliber defensive backs speaks volumes about his potential.
On the field, Hannah has already shown flashes of the athleticism that made his father a track standout in the 400-meter and 4x400 relay at Hawthorne High School. Over his first two seasons at Simi Valley—located about 40 minutes outside Los Angeles—he has racked up 77 total tackles, 19 passes defended, four interceptions, a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery across 20 games.
What's especially encouraging is his development in the turnover department. After breaking up 16 passes as a freshman, Hannah turned that ball-hawking ability into three interceptions as a sophomore—despite being limited to just six games last season. As he continues to add weight to his frame, he projects as a Big Ten-caliber cornerback with the speed and instincts to compete at the highest level.
Washington currently holds no verbal commitments in the 2028 class and just 13 for the 2027 cycle, set to sign in December. But with rising sophomore cornerback Dylan Robinson already drawing NFL draft buzz, getting an early jump on finding his eventual replacement is a smart play. And in Hannah, the Huskies may have found a cornerstone for their secondary of the future.
