The Washington Huskies are making serious moves on the recruiting trail, and they've set their sights on one of the most electrifying prospects in the entire 2028 class. Five-star edge rusher Jalanie George—a 6-foot-5, 245-pound wrecking ball from Desert Edge High School in Arizona—has the Huskies firmly in the mix for his commitment.
Ranked as the No. 6 overall prospect and the No. 2 edge rusher in the 2028 class by the 247Sports Composite, George is the kind of game-changing talent that can transform a defense. And Washington has built an early relationship that's paying dividends. According to a report from 247Sports, the Huskies are currently among the top contenders for his services, joining a powerhouse list that includes Miami, Ohio State, Oregon, and Oklahoma.
That's elite company, but Washington's coaching staff—led by Jedd Fisch—has found a way to get its foot in the door early. And they're not alone in the pursuit: Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Texas, Texas A&M, and USC are also hot on his trail. With 33 offers already on the table, George is one of the most sought-after players in the country.
What makes this recruitment even more intriguing is the connection George already has to the Huskies' program. Two of his Desert Edge teammates—four-star quarterback Blake Roskopf and four-star wide receiver Zerek Sidney—are already committed to Washington in the 2027 class. That kind of pipeline from Arizona to Montlake could be a huge advantage for defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi and outside linebackers coach Aaron Van Horn as they work to secure George's pledge.
And George has the production to match the hype. During his sophomore season, he racked up 54 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. 247Sports' Andrew Ivins broke down his film and came away impressed: "Productive front-line defender with a promising frame. Instinctive against the run and will slide off blocks to make stops. Still developing pass-rush cadence, but can hound QBs with length and burst. Not one to bail on a play and will clean up the trash."
After making his first trip to Seattle for Junior Day in early March, George has already indicated he plans to return in the fall for an unofficial visit to experience the game-day atmosphere at Husky Stadium. For Washington fans, that's a promising sign that the Huskies are very much in this race.
