The Washington Huskies are on a clear mission this offseason: bolster their perimeter shooting and infuse the roster with local talent. Enter Mason Williams, a former Eastern Washington star whose potential homecoming could address both needs for head coach Danny Sprinkle.

Williams, a 6-foot-5 guard, spent last season at Iowa State recovering from hip surgery as the Cyclones made their Sweet 16 run. While he didn't see the court, his proven track record from his time with the Eastern Washington Eagles has kept him in high demand in the transfer portal.

During the 2024-25 season, Williams was a standout performer, averaging 13.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. His shooting stroke is particularly intriguing for a Washington team seeking an upgrade; he connected on 37.2% of his three-point attempts over two seasons at Eastern Washington.

The competition for his services is stiff, with reported interest from programs like Gonzaga, Boston College, and Portland. For the Huskies, securing Williams would be a strategic move. Washington's backcourt is undergoing another significant retooling following the departure of JJ Mandaquit to Arizona, with Zoom Diallo and Courtland Muldrew also in the portal.

Williams could provide valuable depth and shooting, potentially in a bench role as he works back to full strength. He would join new addition Parker Friedrichsen from Davidson in a backcourt being rebuilt around junior Wesley Yates III. For a Huskies team looking to make a splash in Coach Sprinkle's third year, landing a talented local product like Mason Williams could be a perfect fit.
