In a move that shakes up the college basketball landscape, Washington Huskies standout center Franck Kepnang is taking his talents to the Kentucky Wildcats for his final season of eligibility. The 6-foot-11 big man from Yaounde, Cameroon, announced his decision on Saturday, marking his second trip through the transfer portal. He'll reunite with former UW teammate Zoom Diallo, who committed to Kentucky back in April, under the guidance of head coach Mark Pope in the SEC.
Kepnang's journey in Seattle was defined by resilience. After injuries limited him to just 32 games over his first three seasons, he finally found his stride in the 2025-26 campaign under coach Danny Sprinkle. Staying healthy for 27 games, he posted solid numbers: 6.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per contest. Over his entire 59-game career with the Huskies, he averaged 7.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks, earning a reputation as a tenacious defender with explosive athleticism and non-stop energy—whether starting or coming off the bench.
For Sprinkle, losing Kepnang is a tough blow as he builds his culture ahead of Year Three. The center's passion for the program and defensive intensity were cornerstones of what the Huskies were creating. Now, Washington will look to Lathan Sommerville, Mady Traore, Nikola Dzepnia, Brazilian newcomer Wini Braga, and Texas Tech transfer LeJuan Watts to hold down the frontcourt. Sprinkle is also eyeing Seattle University transfer Austin Maurer to round out the rotation.
As Kepnang heads to Lexington for one last ride, Huskies fans are left wondering what could have been—but also eager to see how the next chapter unfolds.
