The Golden State Warriors are facing a pivotal offseason decision that could reshape their dynasty core. According to recent speculation, the franchise might be preparing to part ways with longtime defensive anchor Draymond Green in favor of a younger, more versatile forward from the Denver Nuggets—Aaron Gordon.
This isn't the first time Green's future with the Warriors has been questioned. During the February trade deadline, Golden State was aggressively pursuing Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and rumors swirled that Green could be part of those discussions. While that blockbuster deal never materialized—the Warriors instead acquired Kristaps Porzingis—the offseason could bring a different outcome.
Blue Man Hoop's Peter O'Keefe has floated a compelling trade scenario: swapping Green for Aaron Gordon, the 30-year-old forward who helped the Nuggets capture the 2023 NBA championship. The numbers make sense financially, as Green holds a $27.7 million player option for the 2026-27 season, which aligns closely with Gordon's contract.
"Should Green opt into his player option, there's a strong chance they look to move the former Defensive Player of the Year for a star," O'Keefe wrote. "Yet a more subtle upgrade to Gordon could be just as valuable, and also a little easier, considering the similar salaries."
Gordon's appeal is clear. While he may not match Green's legendary defensive instincts, the 6-foot-8 forward brings superior size, explosive athleticism, and a rapidly improving outside shot. Over the past two seasons, Gordon has connected on 43.6% and 38.9% of his three-point attempts—a stark contrast to Green's offensive limitations.
The timing couldn't be more interesting. After Denver's early playoff exit, Gordon has emerged as one of the Nuggets' most likely trade candidates. Despite some injury concerns, his value remains high thanks to his perimeter shooting and championship pedigree.
For the Warriors, this move would signal a strategic pivot. Green's recent decline has raised questions about his fit alongside an aging Stephen Curry. Gordon, meanwhile, offers a more modern, floor-spacing version of a do-it-all forward. If Golden State can convince Green to opt in, this trade could provide the jolt the dynasty needs to remain competitive in the Western Conference.
