The Golden State Warriors are moving on from a veteran coach after two seasons.

The Golden State Warriors are shaking up their coaching staff after a disappointing season that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time in years. The franchise has parted ways with 68-year-old veteran coach Terry Stotts, a respected NBA champion who served two stints with the team.

According to ESPN's Anthony Slater, Stotts and fellow assistant Jerry Stackhouse are both leaving the Warriors. Stotts, who joined the team in 2024 as head coach Steve Kerr's lead assistant and offensive coordinator, informed Kerr late in the regular season that he wouldn't be returning. He leaves on good terms and remains open to head coaching opportunities elsewhere.

Stotts' basketball journey is a storied one. He first joined the Warriors in 2024 after assistant coaching stints with the Albany Patroons, Fort Wayne Fury, Seattle SuperSonics, and Milwaukee Bucks, plus a head coaching role with the Atlanta Hawks. After just one season with Golden State, he returned to Milwaukee as head coach for two seasons, then spent four campaigns with the Dallas Mavericks—where he won an NBA championship as an assistant. His longest tenure came as head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers for nine years, before brief returns to the Bucks and Warriors.

While his second act in the Bay didn't pan out as hoped, Stotts' championship pedigree and decades of experience make him a strong candidate for another NBA role if he chooses to continue coaching. For the Warriors, the focus now shifts to rebuilding their coaching staff and roster as they aim to bounce back stronger next season.
