The 2025-26 Texas high school boys basketball season delivered unforgettable moments—thrilling upsets, standout performances, and postseason magic. Now that the final buzzer has sounded, one big question remains: Who deserves the title of Big Country's best boys basketball player?
We're turning to you, the fans, to decide. The Abilene Reporter-News has selected 16 finalists for the 2025-26 Readers' Choice All-Big Country Boys Basketball MVP. These players were chosen based on their stats, individual honors, team success, and input from area coaches. The poll opens Tuesday, May 12, and closes at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 25.
Here's a closer look at each candidate vying for the title of Abilene area player of the year:
Best – A Class 2A TABC All-State honoree, he averaged 19.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 3.3 steals per game for the Plowboys.
Britting – Burst onto the scene as a freshman for the Lions, scoring 17.3 points per game and earning Class 2A TABC All-Region honors.
Browne – Tallied 20.3 points, 3.1 assists, and an area-leading 4.0 steals per game, earning a Class 1A TABC All-Region selection.
Evans – Shined in the Buffaloes' backcourt, collecting Class 2A TABC All-Region honors after putting up a team-high 18.4 points per contest.
Gentry – Helped lead the Jaybirds to their third straight UIL state championship and earned a Class 1A TABC All-State nod after recording 25 points and eight rebounds in the title game.
Hardin – Recognized as the All-District Co-Offensive MVP of District 6-4A, he led the Yellow Jackets to their first playoff victory in eight years with a 20-point performance in the bi-district round.
