It's time to step up to the plate and cast your vote for the Varsity 845 girls softball players of the week for May 4-10, 2026. The polls are now open, and we want you to help us honor the standout athletes who delivered unforgettable performances on the diamond this week.

This week's ballot features a powerhouse lineup of players from both large and small schools across the region. To be considered, coaches submit their game reports and nominations, with one athlete per school allowed each week. Last week's winners—Madison Taggart of Monticello (large schools) and Harper Melay of Chester (small schools)—are now ineligible, making room for new stars to shine.

So, who made the cut? Let's break down the top candidates and their game-changing moments:

Pitchers Dominating in the Circle
Several aces turned in masterful performances. One standout fanned nine batters to lead the Crusaders to a 4-2 win over Newburgh on May 4. Another pitcher threw a four-hitter with nine strikeouts in a 10-1 victory over Kingston, then followed it up with a two-hitter and eight strikeouts in a 5-1 win over Newburgh. A third hurler tossed a two-hitter with 12 strikeouts against Monticello, added another win over Chester, and capped it off with a double, two RBI, and four strikeouts in an 8-5 decision over Port Jervis.

Hitters Heating Up
The bats were just as loud. One player smashed a triple, three singles, and drove in three runs to power the Panthers past Lourdes 10-2. Another slugger collected two singles, a home run, and five RBI in a 25-1 rout of Beacon. A versatile performer recorded a double and single in a loss to Cornwall, while another notched two hits in both games of a doubleheader against Valley Central.

Complete Game Performances
Some athletes did it all. One pitcher won a five-hitter with four strikeouts against Goshen, then fanned nine in a shutout of Washingtonville while also adding two singles and a double at the plate. Another ace threw a one-hitter with seven strikeouts to beat Port Jervis, while a different pitcher fired a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts against Liberty and followed it up with a two-hitter the next day. Even in a losing effort, one pitcher impressed by fanning 16 batters against Eldred.
