The Virginia Wesleyan University softball team is making history, and they did it in style on Saturday afternoon. The Marlins, now a staggering 45-0 overall and 20-0 in the ODAC, cruised to their 17th conference championship by defeating Bridgewater College 12-2 in just five innings at Broyles Field. This perfect run through the ODAC tournament is the latest chapter in what is shaping up to be a truly unforgettable season.

Senior pitcher Emma Adams was the star in the circle, tossing a complete five-inning gem. She allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out three, improving her own perfect record to 21-0 on the year. Her composure under pressure was key, especially after Bridgewater struck first with an RBI double in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead.

But the Marlins' bats were quick to respond. In the bottom of the first, Morgan Tucker singled to right-center, and Taylor McQueen followed with a hit through the left side. With two runners on, Alison Pollack launched a three-run homer over the left-field fence, flipping the score to 3-1 and setting the tone for the afternoon. Pollack finished the day 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs, while Tucker went 3-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs of her own. McQueen also contributed, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

The Marlins kept their foot on the gas in the second inning, adding four more runs. Riley Curtice drew a leadoff walk, and Sarah Prosser followed with another free pass. Laci Campbell then ripped a double down the left-field line to score Curtice, and Samantha Deitsch added an RBI groundout to push the lead to 5-1. Two batters later, Tucker crushed a two-run homer to center field, making it 7-1. Bridgewater managed a run in the third to cut the deficit to 7-2, but the Marlins immediately answered back. Curtice singled, Prosser followed with a hit, and after Campbell reached on a fielder's choice, Deitsch reached on a defensive error to load the bases. From there, the Marlins never looked back, closing out the championship in dominant fashion.

For a team chasing perfection, every win matters. But a conference championship on your home field, against a tough opponent, with a 12-2 statement win? That's the kind of performance that builds legends.
