In a move that adds some serious spice to the in-state rivalry, Virginia Tech has landed a major recruiting win by flipping wide receiver Demarcus Brown from Virginia. The Hokies may have lost on the field last November—only the Cavaliers' third win this century over Tech—but on the recruiting trail, they've struck back in a big way.
Brown, a 6-foot-3.5, 180-pound playmaker from North Cross School in Roanoke, Virginia, initially committed to Virginia on December 4. But after multiple visits to Blacksburg and building a strong connection with the new coaching staff, he decided to switch his allegiance. When asked about his decision, Brown pointed to two key factors: culture and development. "It's all about family and relationships," he said, and he didn't hesitate to show off his new Virginia Tech gloves to prove it.
The Hokies' recruiting momentum has been undeniable. Brown is the ninth commitment in Virginia Tech's 2027 class, with all nine players pledging since March 19. He's also the first in-state prospect to join the class, a crucial step as Tech battles for other top Virginia talent. One name to watch: Brown's teammate Elijah Hutchinson, an offensive tackle who's also a priority for the Hokies, though Clemson, Florida, and Vanderbilt are all in the mix.
Brown's addition gives Virginia Tech two wide receiver commits in the 2027 cycle, joining Anthony Roberts from Rolesville, North Carolina. With a new head coach in James Franklin and a staff that's clearly making an impression, the Hokies are building something special—one flip at a time.
