When you train alongside greatness, it leaves a mark—and for former Real Madrid Castilla full-back Vinicius Tobias, that mark came in the form of daily lessons from some of football's finest. In a recent interview with Marca, the Brazilian defender opened up about his time at the club, the challenges of adapting to European football, and his deep admiration for one player in particular: Vinicius Jr.

"The truth is that Vinicius Jr is a perfect player," Tobias said, without hesitation. "He has so many qualities, both on and off the field. As a person, he's an excellent teammate. And he works incredibly hard. A lot of people talk about Vini, and rightly so—but for me, they should also talk about everyone at Real Madrid. Because it's not just one player who makes the difference. It's the whole team. But Vini, the work he's been doing, the matches he's played—for me, it's been excellent."

It's high praise from a player who knows what it takes to compete at the highest level. Tobias's journey to Madrid was anything but ordinary. He arrived in Europe without any prior first-team experience, having played only with the Under-20s in Brazil before a brief stint at Shakhtar Donetsk. Then came the move to the Spanish capital—a whirlwind transition that forced him to grow up fast.

"I arrived in Madrid and I didn't have any experience as a first-team professional player, to be honest," Tobias recalled. "It was a completely different life—great players, a different style of work. I had to adapt quickly. The work I did there with Ancelotti and with Raúl was excellent for me as a person and as a player. They helped me change my style of play, improve my body, maintain my fitness. Madrid was the best experience I've ever had. Now that I know how things work, I know I have to work hard, play well, and hopefully one day return to Madrid or join another big team."

While the experience wasn't always easy—more time spent observing than playing—Tobias sees it as invaluable. "Of course, it was a difficult time at moments," he admitted. "But it was also the best possible experience I could have had. Training with players like Vinicius Jr. and learning from coaches like Ancelotti shaped me into the player I am today."

For fans of the beautiful game, Tobias's story is a reminder that the path to greatness is rarely a straight line—but with the right mindset and the right influences, every step counts.
