The Minnesota Vikings decided they would get creative to start the second day of the 2026 NFL Draft. Right before they were set to be on the clock with the 49th overall pick in the second round, Minnesota traded back. The Vikings sent picks 49 and 196 to the Carolina Panthers for picks 51 and 159.

NFL Media's Tom Pelissero was the first to report the trade.

The Vikings trade back two spots to gain 40 later on is a good move for a team looking to fill some much-needed depth needs. They are likely going to continue to target defense as the draft rolls on, but look for them to add some offensive pieces at either running back or wide receiver.

A sleeper spot to also be addressed is tight end, despite the team having T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver on the roster.
