The Minnesota Vikings might be looking at a quarterback reset in the 2027 NFL Draft, and one early mock draft suggests the franchise could already be plotting its next move under center. With the draft set to take place in Washington, D.C., the Vikings still hold their first-round pick, but a lot can change in 12 months. Still, the speculation is heating up around a class that many analysts believe could be generational in talent.

CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson recently released his latest way-too-early 2027 mock draft, and it has the Vikings selecting Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr as a potential replacement for current signal-caller J.J. McCarthy. Carr just wrapped up a strong debut season as the Fighting Irish starter, and another solid campaign in 2026 could vault him into top-pick territory.

Wilson describes Carr as a "Bo Nix-style game manager" — and he means that as a high compliment. "He's a steady-as-she-goes QB, who doesn't make mistakes, shows consistently good touch on deep balls, can throw with anticipation on intermediate throws, has the athleticism to play out of structure and finds ways to make plays — and that's all just from one year of starting experience," Wilson wrote.

Fans may draw comparisons between Carr and McCarthy on the field, but the energy Carr brings to Notre Dame's offense arguably surpasses what McCarthy delivered during his time at Michigan. If the Vikings decide to hit the reset button, Carr could be the arm to lead a new era in Minnesota.
