Adrian Peterson is getting inducted into the Minnesota Vikings’ ring of honor. The Vikings announced Monday that Peterson would be inducted during halftime of a home game at some point during the upcoming season. A date wasn’t announced, as the NFL isn't releasing its full 2026 schedule until Thursday.

The Minnesota Vikings have announced that legendary running back Adrian Peterson will be inducted into the team's prestigious Ring of Honor during the 2026 season. The news broke Monday, with the Vikings confirming that the ceremony will take place at halftime of a home game, though the exact date remains under wraps until the NFL releases its full schedule on Thursday.

Peterson, who received the heartfelt news during a visit to the Vikings' facility last Thursday, was there to speak with rookies and contribute content for the team's entertainment network. The Vikings shared his emotional reaction in a video on X, giving fans a glimpse of the moment he learned of the honor.

This induction makes Peterson the 29th member of the Vikings' Ring of Honor, a fitting tribute to a player who left an indelible mark on the franchise. During his tenure with Minnesota from 2007 to 2016, Peterson set franchise records for career rushing yards (11,747) and touchdown runs (97). His crowning achievement came in 2012 when he rushed for an astounding 2,097 yards—just nine yards shy of Eric Dickerson's single-season record—earning him the NFL MVP award.

Peterson's impact extended beyond his time in Minnesota. He ranks fifth in NFL history with 14,918 career rushing yards, a testament to his longevity and dominance across stints with the New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, Washington Football Team, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans, and Seattle Seahawks.

"From the moment we selected Adrian in the 2007 NFL draft, he proved to be a transformational player for the Minnesota Vikings," said Vikings owner/president Mark Wilf in a statement. "His historic 2012 MVP season will be rightfully remembered by fans, but Adrian's consistent production over 10 seasons in Minnesota is what firmly established him as an all-time Viking and one of the greatest to ever play this game. It will be a privilege to welcome Adrian into the Vikings Ring of Honor this year, and we know it's a matter of time before we are also celebrating his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

For Vikings fans, this announcement is a chance to celebrate a player who defined an era of hard-nosed, powerful running. As you gear up for the 2026 season, consider showing your support for the purple and gold with some classic Vikings gear—the kind that honors legends like Peterson who made the game unforgettable.
