Victor Wembanyama returned in style as the San Antonio Spurs beat the Portland Trail Blazers 114-93 in Game 4 on Sunday night.

The Frenchman, who had been in concussion protocol following Game 2, was cleared to play and made an immediate impact, finishing with 27 points.

His performance helped the Spurs take a commanding 3-1 series lead, putting them on the brink of advancing ahead of Game 5 back in San Antonio.

However, despite the dominant win, Wembanyama’s post-game comments suggested he was not entirely happy with how his recent situation had been handled.

Wembanyama had missed Game 3 after suffering a concussion earlier in the series, with the Spurs opting to follow the NBA’s protocols before clearing him to return.

The 22-year-old travelled with the team and gradually increased his activity levels before receiving full clearance ahead of Game 4.

He showed no signs of rust on his return, leading the Spurs with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting while also contributing 11 rebounds and three assists.

San Antonio’s convincing win now leaves them one victory away from closing out the Western Conference first-round series.

Speaking after the game, Wembanyama was asked about his time in concussion protocol and whether he had been frustrated by the process.

He said: “I won’t get into the details. I don’t want it to become a distraction. Ask me again at the end of the season.”

The Spurs star did praise the medical staff, adding: “The doctors were great; they took great care of me.”

However, he then added: “But the way the situation was handled was very disappointing.”

His microphone was then muted before he could elaborate further, adding another layer of intrigue to his comments.

Wembanyama did not explicitly confirm whether he felt he could have played sooner, but his remarks suggest there may be more to come on the situation later in the season.
