We now know why San Antonio Spurs superstar center Victor Wembanyama was upset after Game 4 against the Portland Trail Blazers.
ESPN's Shams Charania shared on the Pat McAfee show why exactly Wembanyama was upset for not playing in Game 3.
"Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs believed that he was cleared to play in game three," Charania said. "He was frustrated that he wasn't able to play in game three."
After the Spurs went up 3-1 in the series on Sunday, Wembanyama was visibly upset when asked about his concussion protocol.
"I don’t want to get into the details. I don’t want it to become a distraction. Ask me again after the end of the season," Wembanyama told reporters.
"But all the doctors, especially on the Spurs, and the doctors all around, they were great and took great care of me. But the way the situation was handled was very disappointing, not on the Spurs. ... It was a decision. I’m not saying it was good or bad. But the way the situation was handled was very disappointing.”
The French superstar was not cleared to play Game 3 of the series. The Spurs came out on top; however, it was without their MVP candidate.
Game 3 was a nail-biter, but Game 4, with Wembanyama on the court, was a breeze for San Antonio (for the most part). Wembanyama returned to the court and was fantastic, recording 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, 12 rebounds, three assists, four steals and seven blocks in 34 minutes of action.
Wembanyama initially suffered a concussion on Tuesday in Game 2 of the series. It was a scary and brutal fall, but luckily for the two-time All-Star and the Spurs, he is just fine.
The Spurs now have a chance to close out the series in front of their home fans on Tuesday. Tip-off is at 8:30 CT.
