Spring practice has come to an end in Austin and it’ll be quiet around the Forty Acres for the next few months. One of the annual remarks is “this is where National Champions are made”. Now, that could be overblown but these months do show the culture and connection of a team.
No coaches are allowed to set up practices until summer conditioning. That means it falls on the players to not only continue to improve but do it together. It falls on the leaders like Arch Manning, Colin Simmons, Trevor Goosby and Ryan Wingo to get players together without coaching oversight. For this team, these next few months feel especially important for a number of reasons.
The biggest thing to me is the leaders returning to full health. Trevor Goosby didn’t play at all during spring camp. Laurence Seymore will arrive on campus just in time for summer. Arch Manning didn’t get many reps with the new additions while nursing his injury. That means the summer months are a massive chance for the pass game to get cleaner.

This could be as simple as Arch Manning and the WRs going out and running routes on air. It could be the offensive line unit getting together with Seymore and working on different pass/run sets. It could be all the top-line players running a non-contact scrimmage. It’s the opening to get better while others are taking time off.

Those two, while maybe not leaders, are incredibly important to the Longhorns success in 2026. Terry has the ability to be the most dynamic IDL on the roster while Lockett could move the WR room from great top-line to deep as can be.
DL Justus Terry is out of the sling and is in pads working to get back on the field. Sarkisian says May is going to be a very important month for Terry from a strength and weight perspective for the fall.
College football has a calendar that coaches have to adhere to. There are certain times they can’t contact recruits. There are times when they are not allowed to hold traditional practices. Those are the times teams can create minor separation.
Arch Manning can get more comfortable with his new targets. The OL can work on their cohesion before spring camp. The secondary can work on communication/alignment. Sometimes, that’s the difference between losing in the CFP Semifinals and hoisting their first championship in over 20 years.
