It was certainly a rough week for the USC baseball team. Following a brutal sweep at Nebraska, the Trojans have now lost eight of their past 11 games, including four in a row.

On Monday, the latest USA Today Coaches Poll came out. Not surprisingly, the Trojans dropped significantly, falling 14 spots to No. 23.

The good news for USC is that seven of its 11 losses on the season have come against top 16 teams: No. 1 UCLA, No. 6 Oregon State, and No. 16 Nebraska. The bad news, however, is that the Trojans have yet to beat a ranked opponent, going 0-7 in those games.

More than two months into the season, it seems fairly clear that the Trojans are good enough to win most of their games against the teams that they are supposed to, but not good enough to compete with the top teams in the country. That is certainly a step up from where the program has been for many years now, but it is obviously not where USC wants to be.

In addition to their struggles against ranked opponents, the Trojans have also now dropped eight consecutive road contests. They will look to end that streak Tuesday night in a critical game at Cal State Fullerton.
