Jim Furyk is all set to captain the US Ryder Cup side for the second time.

Furyk will be handed the reins at Adare Manor in Ireland in September 2027 as the US Ryder Cup team try to win back the Ryder Cup.

The 55-year-old captained the American side in France eight years ago but, unfortunately, he presided over a seriously heavy loss.

Now Furyk will get another bite of the cherry at the Ryder Cup in Ireland next year.

After the US side lost at Bethpage in September, vice-captain Furyk highlighted the need for more stability in the American Ryder Cup setup.

The 2003 U.S. Open suggested that sweeping changes were not required but rather more continuity.

Furyk was heavily criticized after his role as Ryder Cup captain in 2018 in France. So, what do the American fans make of him returning to the captaincy role in 2027?

Many American fans are not happy one little bit with Furyk’s appointment as Ryder Cup captain.

Many of his critics are of the belief that he failed before, and will fail again.

One angry fan said: “Unbelievable. He has one of the worst records as a player of all time. Constantly a vice captain for ugly losses. I’m sure he is a good guy, but awful at this.“

“Jim Furyk. Can you imagine Jim Furyk getting in front of our Ryder Cup guys and saying, ‘Alright guys, let’s get fired up’,“ one fan said, while another vented, “Justin Leonard, Fred Couples, Zach Johnson, Kenny Perry, David Duval. Anybody but Furyk.“

One US fan stated sarcastically: “If the plan is to bore the European team into submission then yeah.“

Meanwhile, another said: “His only attempt was an embarrassing blow out loss. Davis Love was the only captain we’ve had in recent memory that did a pretty good job on the road.“

“I like this choice. Copy the play from the Europeans and have a captain longterm to build that continuity and stability,“ one US fan said.

While another suggested that Furyk is a big upgrade on Keegan Bradley: “A gazillion times better than Keegan Bradley. That decision was embarrassing.“

“We have 15 mediocre, safe options. Furyk is one of those options. It’s fine,“ one American Ryder Cup fan insisted.

While another fan was pleased as punch with the Furyk announcement, stating: “I have been saying him all along. Need Stricker out there too.“

So, the reaction to Jim Furyk’s appointment as Ryder Cup captain seems to be very much mixed.

However, it is worth noting that he didn’t cover himself in glory in 2018 at Le Golf National.

And another captaincy gig away from home against a formidable European team will not be one for the faint-hearted.
