Chloe Humphrey is making history, and she's not done yet.
The University of North Carolina attacker has been named a finalist for the Tewaaraton Award for the second straight year, the Tewaaraton Foundation announced Tuesday. Considered the highest honor in college lacrosse, the award is given annually to the top male and female players in the nation, with selection committees comprised of leading college coaches.
Humphrey, who took home both the Tewaaraton and the Honda Sport Award for lacrosse last season, is having another dominant year. She leads the country in goals (92) and points (133), while her 41 assists rank tied for 20th nationally. Her performance earned her ACC Attacker of the Year, first-team All-ACC, and ACC Tournament MVP honors—and she helped lead the Tar Heels to both the ACC regular-season and tournament titles.
Her career numbers are just as impressive. Humphrey ranks fourth on UNC's all-time points list with 251, sixth in goals with 182, and 10th in assists with 69. She's also a regular with the U.S. national team and is set to compete at the world championships this summer.
Next up: the NCAA Tournament. Humphrey and the Tar Heels enter as the No. 2 overall seed and will face the winner of Clemson and Davidson on Sunday at noon at Dorrance Field.
For fans of the game, this is a player to watch—and a reminder that greatness on the field often starts with the right gear and the right mindset.
