North Carolina's basketball frontcourt takes a hit as transfer Maxim Logue will no longer join the Tar Heels.

The North Carolina Tar Heels' frontcourt plans just hit a snag. Forward Maxim Logue, who committed to UNC on April 21 after a stint at Florida Atlantic, will no longer be joining the team. It's a shake-up that leaves head coach Michael Malone's roster puzzle with a few pieces still to fit.

Logue's departure trims the Tar Heels' incoming talent pool, but the cupboard isn't bare. Malone is still working with four transfer portal additions, three high school recruits, and three returning players for next season. The frontcourt depth takes a hit, but UNC remains well-stocked with international standout Sayon Keita and Jarin Stevenson, who proved his versatility as both a starter and sixth man last year. Northwestern transfer Cade Bennerman is also set to add firepower.

Logue, a 6-foot-9 forward, brought solid numbers off the bench for the Owls this season, averaging 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game across 28 appearances. His efficiency was notable—shooting a blistering 67.4% from the field. Highlights included a 16-point, 10-rebound, three-steal outing against Charlotte and a 15-point, eight-rebound performance versus Saint Mary's. He also logged time at Oregon State in the 2024-25 season, averaging 6.6 minutes in 21 games.

For Tar Heels fans, this is a setback but not a knockout. The team still has the pieces to compete, and with the transfer portal still active, there's always room for another twist. Stay tuned as the roster continues to take shape.
