As the countdown to the 2025-26 season ticks on, UNC basketball head coach Michael Malone and his staff are busy shaping the roster for their debut campaign in Chapel Hill. While they've already assembled an impressive transfer portal haul and a strong incoming recruiting class, there's still room to add more firepower—and it looks like the Tar Heels are zeroing in on a talented prospect for the future.

According to a report from Inside Carolina's Sherrell McMillan on Monday, UNC is set to host four-star recruit Thomas for an upcoming visit. The 6-foot-6, 195-pound forward out of Florida originally committed to LSU but reopened his recruitment back in April after backing off that pledge. Now, he's drawing serious interest from the Tar Heels, and the connection runs deeper than just basketball: his agent is former UNC standout K.J. Smith, giving Thomas a built-in tie to the program.

Thomas has already taken official visits to LSU, Florida State, Miami, and Auburn, and holds 13 offers overall. With North Carolina looking to bolster its wing depth, pursuing a versatile scorer like Thomas makes perfect sense. He's currently ranked No. 79 nationally, No. 32 among small forwards, and No. 13 in the state of Florida per the 247Sports composite rankings.

This visit could be a pivotal step for both Thomas and the Tar Heels as they look to build a roster that can compete at the highest level. Stay tuned for more updates as this recruitment heats up.
