The 2026 AAU season is heating up, and college coaches are hitting the road hard to scout the next generation of talent. For the North Carolina Tar Heels, that means keeping a close eye on rising stars—and they've already made a splash with a big offer.
With Michael Malone leading the charge in his first summer on the AAU circuit, the pressure is on to build a strong 2027 class. But on Friday, he turned heads by looking even further ahead, extending an offer to a towering prospect in the 2028 class.
UNC has officially offered 7-foot-1 center Yann Kamagate, a standout from Compton Magic. The offer came after Tar Heels staff watched him dominate on the court. Kamagate, who attends St. Francis High School in La Canada Flintridge, California, now holds seven offers, including from Arizona, USC, and Washington.
And he's not just tall—he's productive. In a recent win for Compton Magic, Kamagate posted an impressive stat line: 16 points, 19 rebounds, and 2 blocks. That kind of performance is exactly why UNC jumped in early.
It's still very early in his recruitment, but the Tar Heels are making sure they leave a strong first impression. For a program known for developing big men, this could be the start of something special.
