
The Hawaii women’s water polo team lost to No. 4 seeded California 15-10 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship on Friday in La Jolla, Calif.
Agatha Weston scored five goals, and Ema Vernoux added two goals and two assists for the Rainbow Wahine (16-6). Daisy Logtens made 11 saves.
Hawaii was making its third consecutive NCAA Championship appearance and 10th overall.
Rosalie Hassett and Eszter Varro each recorded hat tricks, and Talia Fonseca had seven saves for the Golden Bears (15-7).
The No. 3 seeded Hawaii beach volleyball team beat Cal State Northridge, then had its season come to an end with a loss to Cal Poly on Friday at the Big West Championship in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
Julia Lawrenz/Izadora Stedile at No. 1, Kristen Serrano/Caprice Lorenzo at No. 4 and Sarah Burton/Sophie Buschmann at No. 5 won matches for the Rainbow Wahine in the 3-0 quarterfinal victory over the No. 5 seeded Matadors. The other two matches were abandoned.
The Rainbow Wahine lost at Nos. 2, 3, 4 in the 3-0 semifinal loss to the No. 1 seeded Mustangs.
Hawaii finished the season 19-14 under first-year coach Danny Alvarez.
The Hawaii softball team got one-hit gems from Taryn Irimata and Maryn MacNeil in a sweep of Cal Poly on Friday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
In the first game, Irimata walked none and struck out two in an 8-0 victory in six innings. She allowed a two-out single to Maya Venegas in the fourth.
Carys Murakami and Amelia Fidge each batted 3-for-4 for the Rainbow Wahine.
In the second game, MacNeil walked one and didn’t record a strikeouts in an 8-0 win in five innings. She allowed a lead-off single to Kiara Blanchard in the fourth.
Cierra Yamamoto batted 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs and three RBIs, and Ellyanna Cinzori went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Rainbow Wahine.
Hawaii improved to 25-18, 17-6 Big West, while Cal Poly fell to 10-32, 4-19.
