A thrilling extra-inning battle in San Diego ended in heartbreak for the Rainbow Wahine on Thursday, as the Hawaii softball team fell 4-3 to the San Diego Toreros in nine innings.
In a tense nonconference matchup, the Toreros (17-24) secured the walk-off victory in the bottom of the ninth. The winning run crossed the plate when Seleny Chavez scored on a ground ball to shortstop by Kaitlyn Wynia, sealing the hard-fought contest.
Despite the final score, Hawaii (20-18) showcased serious offensive firepower, led by a standout performance from Maycen Gibbs. Gibbs was a force at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, and two RBIs, proving that even in a loss, resilience and individual brilliance shine through.
