UConn Transfer Portal: Dan Hurley Finds Bolsters Guard Depth As 6-Foot-3 SWAC Standout Makes Huskies Move

The UConn Huskies just made a neat addition to their basketball program, with Dan Hurley securing the commitment of former three-star recruit Jaye Nash for the Storrs school this week. The player literally stands out at six feet and three inches.

Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies have added some valuable backcourt depth, securing a commitment from former three-star recruit Jaye Nash this week. The 6-foot-3 guard, who was ranked as the 25th-best point guard in the Class of 2024 and the 19th-best prospect out of Virginia, brings a versatile skill set to Storrs.

Nash's college journey has been a winding one. He originally signed with Tulsa in 2024, appearing in 21 games as a freshman before transferring to Jacksonville State in 2025. With the Gamecocks last season, he averaged 6.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game over 20 contests—solid numbers that showcase his playmaking ability and court vision.

According to reports, Nash made his decision shortly after a campus visit to UConn on Wednesday. While he's not expected to crack the starting lineup for the star-studded Huskies, his addition provides much-needed depth in the backcourt. For a program with national championship aspirations, having a reliable ball-handler and defender off the bench could prove crucial during the grueling Big East schedule and beyond.

Beyond the transfer news, Hurley has been making headlines for his strong stance on the NCAA Tournament's upcoming expansion. Starting in 2027, March Madness will grow to a whopping 76 teams—the first expansion since the field increased to 68 teams in 2011. Hurley isn't a fan.

"What I think makes the tournament special is the qualification for it," Hurley told CBS Sports. "You don't want the regular season to be rendered meaningless and to take away from November, December, January, February. The qualification process makes the regular season intense and pressure-packed."

He added: "It should be a privilege to play in the tournament, not a right. Obviously if it expands too much and you don't have to have a real good season to make it, that would take away from the tournament. Does it get too big?"

For Hurley, the regular season is where teams earn their stripes, and diluting that process risks undermining the very essence of college basketball. As the Huskies continue to build their roster and prepare for another title run, Hurley's philosophy remains clear: every game matters, and every addition—like Nash—is a piece of the puzzle.
