The UConn softball team is heading back to the NCAA Tournament after an electrifying 8-3 victory over Creighton in the Big East final on Saturday in Rosemont, Illinois. The Huskies stormed back with a five-run sixth inning, turning a tie game into a championship-winning rally.

After cruising through their first two tournament games, UConn faced a do-or-die scenario when Creighton forced a winner-take-all final with a 5-2 win in the opener. The Huskies needed just one win in two games Saturday, but the Bluejays refused to go quietly.

Big East Player of the Year Cat Petteys delivered a performance for the ages, going 4-for-5 at the plate. She set the tone early with an RBI double in the first inning, helping UConn build a 3-0 lead. When Creighton clawed back to tie the game, Petteys answered with a home run during the decisive sixth-inning explosion.

The Huskies' comeback was a team effort. Heidi Barber tripled to drive in the go-ahead run, and Savannah Ring followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 5-3. After Petteys' homer, Emma Willers doubled to bring home another run, and Kaitlyn Kibling capped the rally with an RBI single. Kaitlyn Breslin was a steady force throughout both games, driving in three runs total.

On the mound, Jessica Walter delivered a complete-game gem when it mattered most. Having already beaten Creighton in the tournament opener, she showed her resilience by going the distance in the final, securing UConn's second straight Big East title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Creighton's Keegan Maheiu, the conference freshman of the year, was a thorn in UConn's side all day. She had a double and triple in the first game and two more doubles in the second, including the one that tied the game. But the Huskies' sixth-inning surge was too much to overcome.

With a 31-26 record, UConn now awaits its NCAA Tournament assignment, which will be revealed Sunday night. For a team that thrives on clutch performances and never-say-die spirit, the postseason promises more excitement ahead.
