The UCLA baseball team defeated Minnesota 4-2 in their season opener with a strong defensive outing to hold Minnesota scoreless in eight innings.

The UCLA Bruins baseball team kicked off their weekend series against Minnesota in emphatic fashion, securing a hard-fought 4-2 victory at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday. After a couple of tough outings, this win marks a crucial return to form as they build momentum in the heart of the season.

The story of the game was a classic tale of pitching and defense overcoming offensive struggles. While Bruin batters managed just four hits and struck out nine times, the pitching staff delivered a masterclass. UCLA's hurlers combined to hold the Golden Gophers scoreless over eight of the game's nine innings, allowing only five hits and racking up nine strikeouts of their own.

The game started as a tense pitcher's duel, with neither side recording a hit through the first three frames. Minnesota broke through in the top of the fourth, stringing together a pair of hits to plate two runs. The Bruins' response was delayed but decisive. In the bottom of the fifth, the offense ignited for a vigorous comeback, unleashing three hits to send four runners across the plate and seize a 4-2 lead.

From there, the UCLA bullpen slammed the door shut. Over the final four innings, they completely stifled the Minnesota lineup, allowing just two more hits to seal the victory. Ace Logan Reddemann was credited with the win, moving his impressive season record to a perfect 8-0.

With the series opener in the books, the Bruins look to carry this defensive intensity into Saturday's matchup. Game two against Minnesota is scheduled for a 2 p.m. PT start at Jackie Robinson Stadium.
