The UCF Knights backcourt is set for a shakeup, as sophomore guard Chris Johnson is reportedly entering the NCAA transfer portal. The 6-foot-5 Houston native spent just one season in Orlando, serving as a key reserve behind starters Themus Fulks and Riley Kugel.

In his role, Johnson provided a steady hand, averaging 6.2 points and 1.4 rebounds in about 16 minutes per game across 32 contests. His efficiency stood out, shooting 43% from the field and a solid 37% from beyond the arc. Johnson flashed his potential with several career-best performances this season, including a 17-point outing and games with 6 assists and 3 steals, demonstrating the two-way versatility that makes him an intriguing prospect in the portal.

Johnson's decision marks the first departure for UCF since the portal opened, compounding a significant roster turnover. The Knights are already tasked with replacing six players who exhausted their eligibility, including leading scorers Fulks and Kugel. In total, UCF must now find a way to replenish a staggering 71% of its scoring production from a squad that finished 21-12 and earned an NCAA Tournament berth.

For Johnson, this will be his third stop in three collegiate seasons, having previously played at Texas and Stephen F. Austin. His combination of size, shooting, and ball-handling will likely attract plenty of suitors looking for backcourt depth and experience. As for the Knights, the search for backcourt reinforcements in a competitive transfer market is now officially underway.
