The Los Angeles Rams' decision to draft Ty Simpson at No. 13 overall surprised many on the first night of the 2026 NFL draft — including the quarterback they took with the pick.
Simpson told reporters Thursday night that he "really had no clue" the Rams would select him and that he had minimal contact with the team throughout the pre-draft process.

It was a bold pick, and one many didn't expect considering the Rams' other needs in their efforts to make a Super Bowl run. Simpson, at least, knows what to expect when he joins the team. He also acknowledged the unique opportunity he has to develop under Matthew Stafford and head coach Sean McVay.
"Learning from Sean McVay and then Matthew, who is obviously one of the greatest of all time, I'm looking forward to it," he said on NFL Network after being picked.
