Michigan basketball is on the verge of making history again—this time in the NBA Draft. Fresh off a record-breaking 37-3 season that saw the Wolverines capture both the Big Ten title and the program's second national championship, the team's elite talent is drawing serious attention from scouts and executives alike.
Four former or current Wolverines—Yaxel Lendeborg, Aday Mara, Morez Johnson Jr., and Elliot Cadeau—are currently going through the draft process. While Cadeau is expected to return to Ann Arbor, the other three could make noise on draft night. According to CBS Sports' latest mock draft from Cameron Salerno, Lendeborg is projected to go No. 8 to the Dallas Mavericks, Mara at No. 9 to the Chicago Bulls, and Johnson at No. 23 to the Atlanta Hawks. If those projections hold, Michigan would have two top-10 picks in the same draft for the first time since at least 1957.
The Wolverines have come close before. In 1990, Rumeal Robinson (No. 10), Loy Vaught (No. 13), and Terry Mills (No. 16) all went in the top 20, but only one cracked the top 10. In 1994, Fab Five stars Juwan Howard (No. 5) and Jalen Rose (No. 13) were both top-15 selections. More recently, in 2023, Jett Howard (No. 11) and Kobe Bufkin (No. 15) went back-to-back in the top 15. And in 2013 and 2014, Michigan had back-to-back years with multiple first-round picks, including Trey Burke (No. 9), Tim Hardaway Jr. (No. 24), Nik Stauskas (No. 8), and Mitch McGary.
This year's draft could be the biggest yet for the maize and blue. With Lendeborg and Mara both projected in the top 10, Michigan fans have plenty of reason to tune in—and maybe even grab some new gear to celebrate the program's growing legacy in the NBA.
